VIP or Very Important Player Program is designed to provide a fun and safe soccer experience for those individuals, children and adults, who have physical and/or mental disabilities that prevents them from successfully participating on mainstream teams.
The mission of the AYSO VIP Program is to provide a quality soccer experience for individuals whose physical or mental disabilities make it difficult for them to successfully participate on mainstream soccer teams. What is successful participation? It should be defined by the player’s enjoyment and the safety of all team members. This program provides a safe, fun environment with trained coaches and volunteers who facilitate an enriching experience that the players and their families will cherish forever.
These individuals, also known as “special needs” individuals, include those with down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, emotional disturbances, visual impairments, or other conditions that limit mobility, strength, and/or comprehension. In the AYSO, these kids are Very Important Players (VIP).
AYSO Region 60, Alhambra-Monterey Park implements a VIP Program that operates within the existing region structure. The VIP Division offers an opportunity for players and parents alike to participate in a supportive environment, to be a part of a team, to learn about the game of soccer, to make new friends, and most of all, to have FUN!
VIP “Buddy” Program - The AYSO volunteer position of VIP (Very Important Player) Buddy is a non-disabled person intended to guide the VIP player on the field of play. They also provide a player support system. VIP Buddies can be adults or children who are at least 12 years old. Many buddies are high school or college students who enjoy working with children and are also seeking volunteer community service credit. Buddies go through a required training program offered by the region.
