Player selection Q&A
Q1: What is the player evaluation process?
A1: Players are selected for Region 60’s EXTRA™ Program team based on evaluations by impartial evaluators at standardized tryouts. Full participation in at least one tryout session is a requirement for selection, although multiple attendances may give players an advantage. Evaluation sessions include:
● Impartial and outside evaluators that are experienced Advanced Coaches
● A variety of standardized drills and scoring
● Use of bib #s instead of names during rating.
Q2: How are players selected?
A2: The player evaluations will determine the initial player candidates for each team. Player candidates will be invited to participate in practices and tournaments for continued evaluation until final team roster is selected at the end of June 2020. In addition, families must meet the volunteer commitments during this time. Final selections will be made by the Selection Committee. Coaches are not involved with the final team selection.
Q3: When will parents be notified if their player made the team?
A3: Parents will be notified if their child was selected for the initial player candidate pool by the end of April 2020. Parents will be notified if their child was selected to the final team by June 2020.
Q4: What happens if they don’t make the team?
A4: Players will participate in AYSO Region 60 Fall Core program as they will already have registered and paid for the Fall Season.
Q5: What if my player is already involved with another club/sports team?
A5: EXTRA™ participation requires EXTRA™ commitment. Cannot be on another youth sports team, including soccer and other sports. This is done to avoid overuse injuries, and align with US Soccer Organization development guidelines.
AYSO Region 60 Extra Program Tryouts
Parents, thank you for bringing your kids to tryout this past weekend. We will keep these ratings posted for a week, and wanted to share the answers to some common questions we have received;
Why has my player's rating changed from day 1? Players who tried out Saturday and Sunday, had a chance to improve their ratings. We may have averaged the rating from the two days, to show a higher score.
I couldn't make tryouts, can I tryout? Yes, until May 30, we will accept walk-in players at Spring Cup practices, where an Advanced Coach will provide a player rating.
When will I know if my player was invited to join an EXTRA Team?At the moment there are only sufficient players to form two teams. The EXTRA Coordinator will be sending thank you notices and invitations by the end of the week, letting your players know their status.
14U (2007) Boys
12U (2009) Girls
Who will coach the teams? This year we had 11 volunteers express interest in coaching the EXTRA program. We will be finalizing our Coach selection this week, and will be introducing the Player Candidate families to the coach by email.
