With heavy hearts, AYSO Region 60 regrets to inform of the passing of our beloved Alfredo “Fred” Vasquez.  Fred passed away on August 24, 2022. 

Fred has made a tremendous impact on our community, serving as an AYSO 60 volunteer for more than 20 years.  He coached his own daughters, and then continued coaching after they stopped playing.  He had a tough no-nonsense approach to coaching, though players and families saw him for what he was . . . a caring and thoughtful mentor who aimed to bring out the best in his players.  Fred coached year-round leading multiple teams in most seasons, including the Core (Fall) Program, All-Stars, Spring Cup and Tournaments.  He also served the region by coordinating fields and equipment, being the first to arrive each game day, lining the fields, meticulously laying out equipment for field set-up, being the last on the field, and ensuring that all equipment was returned to the bin in the same precise manner.  When Region 60 first wanted to initiate goal-keeper specific practices, Fred was the first coach in mind and never hesitated to jump into a new endeavor.

Fred’s impact on our Alhambra-Monterey Park community is enormous, and we are saddened by our loss. He will be deeply missed.
