Silent Weekend is fast approaching on October 18-20th, and we’re excited to share this unique and special weekend with all of you!
Originally dubbed Silent Saturday, now Silent Weekend is a cherished tradition throughout AYSO regions nationwide, bringing the spirit of the old-school schoolyard back into our games.
The idea is simple: let the kids play their hearts out while spectators and coaches embrace a more laid-back, supportive role from the sidelines.
Remember those childhood days when kids would spend all day playing, free from constant instructions and pressure?
That’s exactly what Silent Weekend is about!
Goals of Silent Weekend:
- Let the Kids Have Fun: It’s all about pure joy on the field without pressure or direction.
- Show Kids Can Play Independently: Watch them make decisions on their own and have fun doing it.
- Build Confidence: Encourage kids to trust their instincts and rely on their skills.
- Promote Leadership: Allow players to step up and guide each other on the field.
- Encourage Teamwork: Let players communicate, collaborate, and grow together.
- Support Our Refs: Help our volunteer referees do their best by eliminating sideline interference.
What to Expect:
- Coaches can give guidance before the game and during halftime, but that’s it!
- Coaches, parents, and spectators should refrain from shouting, giving instructions, or using cowbells, air horns, or noisemakers.
- Instead, bring positively worded signs and posters for your teams, and clap with enthusiasm.
Let’s give the kids a chance to enjoy the beautiful game in its simplest form and show them how proud we are of their teamwork and leadership.
