50th Anniversary

AYSO Region 60 - Alhambra/Monterey Park celebrates 50 Years of Soccer, Service, and Community! ⚽️

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of AYSO Region 60 and we’re proud to celebrate five decades of youth soccer built on volunteerism, teamwork, and friendship.
Since 1975, Region 60 has brought families and communities together through the love of the game — powered by the passion and dedication of volunteers. Coaches, referees, team parents, and field crews (former and present) — thank you for being the heart of Region 60.

AYSO Region 60’s mission has always been more than soccer. It’s about building character, creating lasting friendships, and giving every child the chance to grow and shine in a supportive, fun environment.

✨ To kick off the celebration, we’re proud to unveil a special 50th anniversary logo, created by an AYSO player (Hannah B.) and parent (Anna Q), featuring a golden phoenix. The logo symbolizes renewal, strength, and the enduring spirit of AYSO Region 60 rising through the years.

Closing Remarks

The Core Season marked 50 years of Region 60 offering a recreational youth soccer program to our Alhambra and Monterey Park communities. As an all-volunteer-run organization, we are deeply grateful to every individual who stepped forward to support our players and families.
In honor of our 50th anniversary, we proudly recognize the 27 volunteer board members who work tirelessly on and off the field to keep the program running, the 97 coaches and 55 assistant coaches who made it possible for 997 youths to play soccer, the 164 referees—including 32 youth referees—who took on the responsibility and pressure of officiating games, and the 55 team managers who kept everything organized behind the scenes.

In total, 398 dedicated volunteers made this season possible. Thank you!

This year also introduced and celebrated several exciting highlights:
• Schoolyard Sidekicks, a mentorship collaboration pairing upper-division players with our incoming schoolyard players at both opening and closing ceremonies
• Dedicated weeks of appreciation for our coaches, referees, team managers, and youth referees
• The third-year return of Kick or Treat
• Our second annual Coach Exhibition Game
• Introduction of a referee mentor program

And the addition of new local vendors who joined us at various events.

Additionally, huge thank you to our Friday afternoon and Saturday 6am crew who’d paint the field and set up the field - Steve Perry, Jim Jaime, Jill and David Terry.

Thank you to our incredible community for another successful and memorable Core Season. Here’s to 50 years—and many more—of soccer, teamwork, and volunteer spirit at Region 60!

AYSO National Referee

We're also celebrating Marco Viramontes on achieving the rank of AYSO National Referee! We’re honored to have him as part of our community and excited to share his own words about why he continues to volunteer.

⚽ From Soccer Dad to National Referee – Why I Still Volunteer with AYSO
Back in 2010, I started coaching when my daughter joined AYSO Region 60. Her coach, the late Alfred Vazquez, needed help—and I had 20 years of playing experience. I figured, “How hard could it be?” Little did I know how much AYSO values its volunteers. With their support, what started as helping out turned into something I truly loved.
Then came my son Max, and I dove in deeper—upgrading my coach and referee certifications and becoming more involved. Today, I’m proud to say I’m a National Referee with AYSO. Even though my kids have aged out, I’m still volunteering. Why? Because AYSO and Region 60 gave so much to my family—and I want to pay that forward. The skills, friendships, and memories last a lifetime.
If you’re thinking about getting involved—do it. You don’t need to be a soccer expert, just someone who cares. You’ll be making a difference in kids’ lives (and probably your own too).

Region 60 is truly grateful for Marco’s ongoing dedication to our community.
