We're also celebrating
Marco Viramontes on achieving the rank of AYSO National Referee! We’re honored to have him as part of our community and excited to share
his own words about why he continues to volunteer.
From Soccer Dad to National Referee – Why I Still Volunteer with AYSO Back in 2010, I started coaching when my daughter joined AYSO Region 60. Her coach, the late Alfred Vazquez, needed help—and I had 20 years of playing experience. I figured, “How hard could it be?” Little did I know how much AYSO values its volunteers. With their support, what started as helping out turned into something I truly loved.
Then came my son Max, and I dove in deeper—upgrading my coach and referee certifications and becoming more involved. Today, I’m proud to say I’m a National Referee with AYSO. Even though my kids have aged out, I’m still volunteering. Why? Because AYSO and Region 60 gave so much to my family—and I want to pay that forward. The skills, friendships, and memories last a lifetime.
If you’re thinking about getting involved—do it. You don’t need to be a soccer expert, just someone who cares. You’ll be making a difference in kids’ lives (and probably your own too).
Region 60 is truly grateful for Marco’s ongoing dedication to our community.
